Four Favorite Local Hot Spots for Cool Treats

By Christina Dzingala
Former Adam’s Inn Employee

Sure it’s winter time, but who says you can’t still enjoy a good ice cream? Here are four favorite options for the bold and brave:

1. Caliyogurt
ADAMS MORGAN – 2473 18th St NW, Washington, DC 20009, (202) 234-0330
This is the place for you if you enjoy your frozen yogurt cool, tart, and fruity. The shop is right around the corner from Adam’s Inn and features a new flavor each week. My favorite is blueberry frozen yogurt topped with fresh blueberries.

2. Dolcezza
DUPONT CIRCLE – 1704 Connecticut Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20011, and GEORGETOWN – 1560 Wisconsin Ave NW Washington, DC 20007
For an international twist, foodies will appreciate the exotic flavors of gelato and sorbetto at this artisanal creamery. Flavor menu changes weekly and includes unique flavor blends like avocado honey orange and pineapple mint.

3. Dickey’s Frozen Custard
FARRAGUT SQUARE – 1710 I St NW, Washington, DC 20006, (202) 861-0669
If you want to escape winter’s drudgery, if only for a few minutes, you can escape downtown to Dickey’s. Their smooth and creamy vanilla frozen custard is an old-time favorite.

4. Baskin Robbins
WOODLEY PARK – 2604 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008
Kids young and old will want to stop at Baskin Robbins after a long day at the National Zoo. Or, make a quick stop here before heading to the annual Zoolights ! With 31 flavors of ice cream, there is something for everyone. My favorite is rocky road.
